Building the Greenview Industrial Gateway

Greenview’s vision for the Greenview Industrial Gateway (GIG) began in 2013, when an Area Structure Plan identified 18,660 acres of Crown land for future industrial development. In 2015, Greenview entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Alberta, an important step toward establishing the framework for the Gateway’s development.

The initiative grew from Greenview Council’s recognition that the region needed a long-term economic strategy—one that could attract investment, create employment and generate revenue while supporting responsible development.

Working with industry and government partners, Greenview began planning an industrial area designed to make the most of the region’s existing strengths, including its transportation connections, natural resources and workforce. The goal was to create a well-planned, development-ready area where industry could establish and grow.

Over the years, Greenview has invested in infrastructure, planning and regulatory preparation to advance the GIG. Today, the GIG represents a long-term economic development initiative focused on attracting investment, diversifying the regional economy and creating opportunities for communities across Greenview.
